According to a TMZ report, in the early morning of April 13, around 3:40 AM, Baltimore Ravens’ Safety Earl Thomas was involved in an altercation with his wife, in which she held him at gunpoint before police arrived on the scene. His wife, Nina, allegedly caught Thomas cheating on her with another woman. According to the TMZ article, Nina believed that the gun she was holding (which was Thomas’ 9MM Beretta), was unloaded, as she just wanted to “scare him.” Nina may have believed this but the gun was loaded, the safety disengaged, and her finger was on the trigger. Earl Thomas was able to wrestle the gun away from her before anyone got seriously injured.
The TMZ report was published late last night. Before it was published, Thomas made an Instagram post explaining that TMZ was about to report an altercation between him and his wife. Thomas explained that he wanted to keep this private but obviously that was not able to happen. Thomas also asked for prayers for him and his family.
The Baltimore Ravens released a statement this morning regarding the situation. According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, the statement read, “We became aware of the situation when we read and saw it on the reports late last night and early this morning.” The Ravens are presumably monitoring the situation, but implied in their statement is that Baltimore only learned of this incident last night/this morning. If that’s the case, Earl Thomas did not report the incident to the Ravens between the occurrence on April 13 and the TMZ report on May 6. Stories of this nature are usually reported to NFL teams by the players involved before the media becomes aware of the situation. The Ravens would have liked to know about the situation before TMZ ran the story.
