According to Joe McBride, the Patriots beat reporter for the Boston Globe, the Baltimore Ravens are signing the former Patriot defensive lineman, Ufomba Kamalu. This move comes after the Baltimore Ravens signed another former New England Patriot, defensive back Jordan Richards. Richards and Kamalu were able to join the Ravens after Baltimore placed Pernell McPhee on the injured reserve, and cut Justin Bethel to recoup a fourth-round compensatory pick the team would have lost if not for releasing Bethel because the Tennesee Titans released former Raven Brent Urban.
Kamalu attended Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas. He then transferred to the University of Miami in Florida. Kamalu was undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. He was waived at the end of the preseason but signed onto the Texans practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster in 2016 and remained with the Texans until he was waived after the 2018 preseason.
Kamalu was signed by the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 but was cut in late October of that same year. Kamalu joined the New England practice squad after being cut from Arizona and was elevated to the 53-man roster in Dember of 2018. He remained on the team throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl victory. Kamalu was again cut in 2019 but signed with the Patriots practice squad immediately.
This is the second signing that the Baltimore Ravens made on Thursday. Both signings came from the Patriots camp in New England, one that was released to make room for the former Raven, Justin Bethel, and the other was plucked from the practice squad. The signings fill the two vacant roster spots that the Baltimore Ravens needed to fill. Both players will have time to get acquainted with the Ravens before they take on their former team on November 3, as the Ravens are on a bye week.
The #Ravens are going to sign defensive lineman Ufomba Kamalu off the #Patriots practice squad, per league source.
