Absent from Baltimore’s Thursday night win over the Green Bay Packers, the full extent of Tavon Young’s injury troubles were not known until after the game. In his post-game press conference, John Harbaugh revealed at the slot cornerback, who recently extended his contract with the Ravens, sustained a serious neck injury. The injury is not life or career-threatening, thankfully, but will likely end Young’s season before it even began. Baltimore is recommending Young undergo surgery.
Cornerback and return specialist Cyrus Jones will likely replace Young’s role in the slot. Baltimore has been pleased with his production this preseason. But even with a capable backup in hand, the loss of Young is a major blow to the Ravens defense. Young is one of the best slot cornerbacks in the game, but injuries continue to force the young defensive back off the field. In addition to this neck injury that will keep him off the field in 2019, Young tore his ACL in 2017 and missed the entire year.
The hope will be that Young can recover quickly, and return for 2020.
