The Baltimore Ravens are now on their second day of training camp, and the coaches are giving more information about injuries. Yesterday, eight players missed the first day of practice. Five of those absences came from players on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). Guard Marshal Yanda, tight end Vince Mayle, cornerback Jaylen Hill, linebacker Bam Bradley, and wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo are all the players on the list. There were also a few rookies who missed practice unexpectedly. They were tight end Mark Andrews, tackle Greg Senat, and center, Alex Thompson.
Today, on the second day of practice, the Ravens got some good news and bad news. The good news is that tight ends Vince Mayle and Mark Andrews are back practicing with the team. Mayle was cleared in a physical and removed from the PUP list. Mayle suffered a high ankle sprain earlier in the offseason. Andrews was held out for just one day as the Ravens were concerned about a “muscle tissue issue”. The bad news is that the Ravens saw three more players held off the field. Guard Maurquice Shakir, safety Bennett Jackson, and tight end Hayden Hurst did not practice. Hurst did not practice because of a soft-tissue injury. The Ravens are considering it minor and don’t think it will hinder him long term. The first round pick’s timetable to return is unknown, but it should not be a long time until he hits the field again.
For the Ravens who have still not returned to practice, the following is known about each of their injuries: The reason Yanda is on the PUP list is that he is recovering from shoulder surgery he had earlier in the offseason. Yanda suffered a broken ankle last year that kept him out for most of the season, but that seems to be a non-issue at this point. Both Jaylen Hill and Bam Bradley are recovering from knee injuries, and neither is expected to practice for a while. They, along with Quincey Adeboyejo who sustained a leg injury, are speculated to start the season on the PUP list.
Tackle Greg Senat sustained an undisclosed injury at the end of minicamp. He will likely be out anywhere from one to three weeks according to coach Harbaugh. The injuries to Maurquice Shakir and Bennet Jackson are both undisclosed. Subsequently, their timetable to return is also undisclosed. Alex Thompson has yet to report for camp. The Ravens did not indicate why he is absent, but did place him on the reserve/did not report list. In other injury-related news, defensive end Brent Urban is back on the practice field after being taken off the PUP list earlier this offseason. Urban missed most of last year after suffering a Lisfranc Foot Sprain.
