Today, John Harbaugh spoke to the media at the annual AFC Coaches breakfast. While there, he touched on a number of issues and news stories for the Ravens, adding suspicion to, and even confirming some rumors that have been circulating around the Ravens. Here are some of the highlights from his speaking to the press today:
On Timmy Jernigan Trade Rumors:
Harbaugh did not rule out trading Timmy Jernigan. He confirmed that there are several teams interested in Jernigan. He also praised Jernigan, and predicted that he would have his best season to date in his young career next season. Personally, I don’t think that Jernigan will be traded. He’s young, and playing well. The Ravens can get at least another year out of him, and can then decide what to do next season.
On Anquan Boldin:
Harbaugh made many Ravens fans very happy when he endorsed the idea of bringing back Anquan Boldin, a key contributor to the Ravens in their 2012 Super Bowl run. Boldin, 36, is going into his 15th season in the NFL. His statistics have kept up considering his age. He had 67 receptions last year, for 584 yards and 8 touchdowns. Adding Boldin back to the offense would give Flacco some familiarity, and a good target to throw to.
On Kamalei Correa:
Harbaugh believes that Correa will ultimately become the new starting inside linebacker alongside CJ Mosely. With the sudden retirement of Zachary Orr, the Ravens are in need of an inside linebacker. Correa is coming off of a disappointing rookie season, where he sustained some injuries. Correa will need to step up if he wants to become a part of the elite Ravens defense, and this year is his year to prove himself.
On Terrance West:
The Ravens have had a question mark at running back for most of this offseason now. The question wasn’t exactly answered, but Harbaugh did say that right now, Terrance West is the starting running back over Kenneth Dixon, who is suspended for four games, and newly acquired Danny Woodhead. This shouldn’t be much of a surprise for fans, as West was the Ravens’ leading rusher last season with over 700 yards.
On the Fullback Situation:
With the departure of Kyle Juszczyk, the Ravens are now in need of a fullback. The idea has been flying around that the Ravens could turn Nick Boyle, a tight end, into a fullback. Harbaugh today said he was open to the idea of turning not only Boyle, but running back Lorenzo Taliaferro, into a fullback. This would fill the void left by Juice, as both these players could easily pick up where he left off.
On CJ Mosely:
Mosely is one of the Ravens best defenders, and one of the best at his position in the NFL. It should come with no surprise that today that Harbaugh said that the Ravens would pick up his 5th year option to extend his contract. He also sees Mosely being a Raven for a long time, something that the Ravens faithful will love to hear.
